Concept:          Privacy

Due:                 Monday, Nov. 14

Points:             30 points

Part I.  Find and read the privacy policy for at least three sites.  At least one of the sites should be a place where you can purchase products over the Internet.  Another site should allow you to choose personal settings (see my.netscape.com, for example).   Address the following questions:

·         Was the privacy policy easy to find?  Easy to understand?

·         Is the information collected at each site shared or sold?

·         Does the web site have an opt-in or opt-out policy?

·         Does the site use cookies?  What happens when you turn cookies off in your browser?

·         Compare and contrast the privacy policies of the three sites.  What do they have in common?  What are the differences?

·         In what ways does the privacy policy at these sites match or not match your personal preferences?

·         Would you provide personal data at this site?  Why or why not?

Part II.  Offer your opinion on these questions:

·         What do you see as the top two privacy concerns today?

·         How much privacy do you think you have as an Internet user?

·         Are you satisfied with this level of privacy?

·         How do you benefit from giving up some of your privacy?

·         Are the existing privacy practices and laws sufficient to safeguard your privacy?

·         Why are some concerned about privacy issues and where do you stand on these issues?
